rehmanniaRehmannia elata aka R. angulata (Chinese Foxglove) Z7 Rehman
I grew this one some time ago and really liked it. To see photos on Dave’s Garden, Click Here. The plants grow to about 3′ tall and the pink flowers do look like foxglove flowers, but with lips. The shade of pink can vary on plants. It is listed as for full sun, but it grows well in part shade. I actually had it in a pot on the corner of the porch. Down south, this is a perennial, but it does not survive a hard winter like we have up here. 100 seeds for $1.75.

.
.
sweetmignonetteReseda odorata (SWEET MIGNONETTE) ResOdo
This heirloom cottage garden plant is known for its sweetly scented flowers. They unfortunately are not very pretty at all! The blooms are small and insignificant. The old seed packet to the left makes them look sort of big, but they really aren’t. Luckily, the plants are small and they can be tucked around other more attractive plants so they fade into the background while giving off their wonderful fragrance. They grow 1-2′ tall. 100+ seeds for $1.00.

.
.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERARudbeckia hirta Double Gloriosa Daisy RudDGD
This is a very pretty not often seen version of Gloriosa Daisy. Being an old fashion OP, there is variation in the amount of doubling in the seedlings as you can see in the pic (Click to enlarge) most will doubled, but there are a few singles in there. Plants grow to about 30″. 50 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
rudbeckiaindian3Rudbeckia hirta ‘Indian Summer’ RudInS
This beauty is a standout in for the summer-fall border. I remember how I was drawn to it the first time I saw it in bloom, and I have to admit I’m not big on yellow, but I had to have it! It grow to about 3′ or so and the blooms are quite large, 4-7″. 1995 AAS winner. 50 seeds for $2.00.

.
.
Rudbeckia hirta ‘Irish Eyes’ RudIEyes
This is another beautiful gloriosa daisy. Instead of the typical brown eyes, the blooms sport green ones. To see photos on Dave’s Garden, Click Here. The plants grow up to 3′. If you are wondering why I have listed all the R. hirtas in the annual section, it is because they do bloom their first year and they are not reliably perennial like other species of rudbeckia. You might get lucky and have them last more than a year if happy. They do reseed. If you are a heavy mulcher, I recommend saving seed and sowing again to ensure future plants. 50 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
Rudbeckia hirta ‘Marmalade RudMar
This cultivar is like a short ‘Indian Summer’ so it still has the same large flowers, but is only 1 1/2 to 2′ tall instead 3′. To see blooms on Dave’s Garden, Click Here. 100 seeds for $1.25.

.
.
Rudbeckia hirta ‘Sputnik’ RudSpu
This variety has large yellow blooms with a nice big dark eye ring. It is very striking. To see a photos of a planting along with some other great Rudbeckia hirta photos, Click Here. Plants grow to about 30″ tall. 50 seeds for $1.50.

.

rudbeckiatrilobaRudbeckia triloba (Brown Eyed Susan) Z3 RudTri
This is a very pretty rudbeckia. I remember them blooming in the fields near my childhood home. It is biennial/short live perennial so I have it listed here with the R. hirta cultivars instead of on the perennial page. It was is growing in clumps along the path to the farm where I grew beans this year (2013,) and I really liked the way it looked, and I decided to carry it. It was growing in part shade there so it does handle a wide variety of conditions. It averages about 3′ tall. Native American. Photo courtesy of a gardening friend, K. Steinmeyer.
75 seeds for $1.00.

.
.
Salpiglossis sinuata ‘Black Trumpets (Velvet Flower aka Painted Tongue) SalpBT
For those of you that love dark flowers, this cultivar has deep velvety burgundy blooms. 20″ tall. 75 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
salpiglossisOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

salpiglossisSalpiglossis grandiflora ‘Finest Mix’ (Velvet Flower aka Painted Tongue) SalpFM
I grew this plant at the request of Rae, a customer down in TX, who though I would like it. I had never grown it before. The pics never did anything for me, and the name surely didn’t. Even the common name painted tongue is not appealing. But I grew it, and I liked it very much. They come in a wide array of colors, and the blooms are often a mix of colors within themselves. I should of tried this one sooner! They should be called kaleidoscope flower. I found out recently from a customer a better common for this plant is Velvet Flower so I’ve added that to the title. The plants grow to 3′ tall. Full sun. 75 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
Salvia coccinea (Red Texas/Scarlet Sage) Z8 SalCoc
This is the original native American species of which the cultivars to follow are derived from. It grows larger than the cultivars shown below ranging anywhere from 2-4′. It is of course an excellent hummingbird plant with its bright red blooms. It is for full sun and is drought tolerant. You can grow it in a pot like the cultivars, but you will of course need a larger pot. 50+ seeds for $1.25.

.
.
Salvia coccinea ‘Coral Nymph’ Z8 SalCNy
This is a two toned coral/light pink version of Red Texas Sage. The plants average about 2′ tall. They grow well in pots. Hummingbird attractor. Sun. 25 seed for $1.25.

.
.
Salvia coccinea ‘Lady in Red’ Z8 SalLIR
The bright red flowers are small but born in profusion on spikes from summer until frost. The plants average about 2′ tall. They grow well in pots. Hummingbird attractor. Sun. 1992 AAS winner. 25 seeds for $1.25.

.
.
Salvia coccinea ‘Snow Nymph’ SalSNy
This is the pure white version. It pumps out blooms just like its counter parts. The plants average about 2′ tall. They grow well in pots. Hummingbird attractor. Sun. 25+ seeds for $1.25.

.
.
Salvia coccinea Mix SalCoMix
Can’t decide which Salvia coccinea cultivar (no wild S. coccinea included) to grow and some of each sounds good? Then this is for you 50+ seeds for $1.75.

.
.
Salvia farinacea (Mealycup Sage) Z7/8 SalFar
This is a beautiful blue sage. It is the native American species from which ‘Victoria Blue’ is derived. The nickname Mealycup comes from the fuzzy white in the sepals. It grows 2-3′ tall. It is a hummingbird attractor. For full sun. It is drought tolerant. It can be grown in pots, but as with anything large, proper pot size is important. 50++ seeds for $1.25.

.
.
Salvia farinacea ‘Victoria Blue’ Z7/8 SalViB
This is an excellent plant for pots and the front of full sun borders. It is drought tolerant, compact, and long blooming. I’ve tried other S. Farinacea cultivars, but I’ve always come back to this one. 50 seeds for $1.25.

.
.
.
Salvia roemeriana aka ‘Hot Trumpets’ Salvia aka Cedar Sage Z8 SalRoe
This short, no more than a foot tall, plant has bold bright red flowers. To see photos Click Here. It is native to Texas and from what I’ve read, it likes shade down there, in fact the shade of cedar trees hence the nickname Cedar Sage. Up north it probably would be best for part sun and maybe even full sun. Hummingbird attractor. 25 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
Salvia patens ‘Blue Angel’ (Gentian Sage) Z8 SalBluA
As you’ve probably already know, I’m a sucker for blue flowers, and I love this plant. These flowers are blue blue! They are also quite large for a salvia, definitely a hummingbird attractor. Though they are always blooming once summer hits, the flowers are not born in great abundance. I recommend planting a couple together for better visual impact. The plants grow to a little over 2 feet and need full sun. They are excellent in pots. 25 seeds for $2.00.

.
.
salviabonfireOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASalvia splendens ‘Bonfire(Scarlet Sage) SalBon
This tried and true salvia has large panicles of hot red blooms so the name Bonfire is perfect for it. It looks great in pots or in the full sun border. Plants grow to about 2′ tall. 50 seeds for $1.25.

.
.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASalvia viridis ‘Blue Monday’ aka Salvia hormonium SalBMo
I saw pics of this one and had to offer it. It has beautifully colored deep blue blooms which are actually blue bracts. The bracts are so big they look like petals. It should be more well known! Plants grow to about 2′ tall. 25+ seeds for $1.50.

.
.
Salvia viridis ‘Pink Sunday aka Salvia hormonium SalPSu
This is the bright pink version of Salvia viridis. To see a couple pics and get more info, Click Here. This variety was once known as ‘Pink Sundae’. 25 seeds for $1.25.

.
.
Sanvitalia procumbens ‘Gold Braid (CREEPING ZINNIA) Sanvit
The nickname of this plant should be Creeping Rudbeckia as the flowers do look a lot like them as opposed to zinnia, in my opinion. It is a low growing spreading plant, good for the front of a sunny border or in planters. To see pics on Dave’s Garden, CLICK HERE. 75 seeds for $1.25.

.
.
schizanthusSchizanthus pinnatus ‘Angel Wings‘ (Poor Man’s Orchid aka Butterfly Flower) SchAnW
I grew this mix a few years back in pots with other flowers as shown in the photo. The flowers are small but very colorful, and the plants bloom profusely. I think this is a great one for kids to grow. plants grow from 10-18″ tall. To see more pics from Google, Click Here. 75+ seeds for $1.50.

.
.
SNAPDRAGONS (Antirrhinum) can be found on the Buy Annuals Seeds A-K page.
.
.
Senecio elegans (Purple Groundsel aka Purple Ragwort) SenEle
When looking up another Senecio, I happened upon this plant. I think it is very pretty top with its purple daisy like flowers. It is drought tolerant full sun plant It grows to about 2′. To see pics on Dave’s Garden, Click Here. 100 seeds for $1.00.

.
.
Silene mexicana ‘Hot Stuff Z? SilHotS
Hot Stuff is a great name for this plant as the flowers are hot hot pink! The flowers are small but the way they are clustered together makes a big color statement. The plants grow up to to 2′. In mild climates it may behave as a short lived perennial. 100 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
Spilanthes oleracea (TOOTHACHE Plant aka Eyeball Plant) is located on the Buy Herbs and Edible Flowers Page.
.
.
StaticeFortressroseStatice ‘Fortress Rose(Limonium Sinuatum) StatFRo
This variety has vibrant bright pink flowers and grows 2 -2 1/2′ tall. Statice is great for flower bouquets. The photo is from the breeder. Full Sun. I’ve listed statice here instead of under Limonium as it seems to be another flower very well known for its nickname instead of its Latin one. Until recently I thought statice was the Latin name! 75 seeds for $1.25.

.
.
Statice ‘Supreme Apricot (Limonium Sinuatum) StatSAp
From the Supreme Statice Series, this is a very pretty color selection. Normally, you only see the dark blue statice from this series for sale, and I wanted to offer an alternative. Statice is a great plant for bouquets as they are an everlasting type flower. These will set off larger flowers perfectly. Sorry, I could not find a photo. The plants grow to about 20″. Full sun. 75 seeds for $1.25.

.
.
statice supreme light blueStatice ‘Supreme Light Blue (Limonium Sinuatum) StatLBl
This one of course is light blue, a great bouquet flower. My pic is not the best, but I think you can imagine how pretty it is in person. 75 seeds for $1.25.
.
.
.

.
.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAStatice ‘Bright Rose’ (Limonium suworowii aka Psylliostachys suworowii) StatBR
This is a very unusual Statice! Sometimes called Russian statice, the flower inflorescences look more like astilbe than statice. My photo isn’t the best. To see the photo results of googling Limonium suworowii, Click Here. It looks great in the garden and also as a dried flower. Plants grow to about 20″. Full sun. 100 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
StreptocarpusCapeCoolMixStreptocarpus ‘Cape Cool Mix (Cape Primrose) StrCCM
This mix of streptocarpus has very pretty flowers in shades of blue, pink, and white that have an orchid type appearance to them. Streptocarpus are related to African Violets and should be grown as house plants in the same manner, but I have grown them many a time during the summer in the shade of my front porch. Photo is from the breeder Floranova. 25 pelleted seeds for $2.00.

.
.

Strophostyles helvolaStrophostyles helvola (Trailing Wild Bean aka Amberique-Bean) StropH
This native annual vine is not overly showy, but the plant is probably useful for attracting insects. The twining stems will grow up and around other plants, but they are not overly aggressive; they will not choke out other plants. When I originally obtained seeds, they came with innoculant, but I’ve found them to grow just fine and it is not needed to get them started here. It is possible that in places where members of the bean family have not grown in along time they may need innoculant. 15 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
Ornamental annual SUNFLOWERS (Helianthus annus) can be found on the Buy ANNUALS A-K page.

Large seeded eating SUNFLOWERS (Helianthus annus) can be found the Buy Herbs, Lettuce, and Edible Flowers page.
.
.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERATecoma capensis (Red Cape Honeysuckle) aka Tecomaria capensis Z9 TecCap
This plant despite it common name is not related to Honeysuckle (lonicera.) It is also not Red Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans.) It seems some people misidentify it as that, and though it is a distant relative, it does not send up runners way away from the plant like Red Trumpet Vine does. Ok, now that that is out the way. This is a vining shrub type of plant. It does sort of support itself, but it will send out long runners that could use support. The bright red blooms are very show and attractive to hummingbirds of course. Tecoma capensis is originally from Africa. 25 seeds for $2.00.
Sorry, now out of stock.
.
.
Tecoma stans var. stans (Yellow Bells) Z9 TecSta
This shrub/small tree is quite showy with its cheery yellow trumpet shaped blooms. It is evergreen in tropical climates, and will lose it leaves in cold weather(zone9) Like zone 9 is cold! but it is all relative to a tropical plant. 25 seeds for $1.

.
.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThunbergia alata (Black Eyed Susan Vine) Mix Z9 ThunAla
This is a mix of yellow, orange, and white flowers with black eyes. The vines grow to about 7′. They can be trained up supports or left to hang out of baskets. Sun to part shade. I’ve grown them a couple times in containers in part shade from the porch, and they’ve done very well. 25+ seeds for $1.75.

.
.
Tithonia rotundifolia (Tithonia speciosa) ‘Torch’ (Mexican Sunflower) Tithon
This butterfly attracting annual gets quite big growing to about 5′. The bright flowers are quite showy and stand out from a distance. Full Sun. 1951 AAS winner. 50 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
Tithonia rotundifolia ‘Yellow Torch’ (Mexican Sunflower) TithYT
The color of this flower really is an apricot, and the more it blooms the more attractive I find it. My plants have grown to about 3 1/2 feet. They come on strong in the late summer/fall border, excellent. Butterfly attractor. Full Sun. 50 seeds for $1.75.

.
.
bluelaceflowerOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERATrachymene caerulea aka Didiscus caeruleus ‘Lacy Blue’ (BLUE LACE FLOWER) TracLB
This plants flowers look like baby blue Queen’s Anne Lace flowers, very pretty, not very well known but should be. The plants grow to about 2′ tall. Starting here up north in the spring, they are a bit late to get going and start blooming in late summer. For earlier bloom, I recommend starting indoors. To see more pics on Dave’s Garden, Click Here. It is a great cut flower too. 50+ seed for $1.25.

.
.
canarybirdflowerTropaeolum peregrinum (CANARY BIRD VINE) Z9 TroPer
This is a small climber to about 10′. It has the neatest looking yellow flowers that do look like little birds with their wings spread. To see a nice close up pic Click Here. 15 seeds for $1.75.

.
.
Verbena bonariensis (Verbena-on-a-Stick aka Purpletop Vervain) Z7 VerbBo
This plant sports 2″ lilac flower clusters atop 36-48″ tall thin stems in late summer. Leaving the flower heads to ripen with seed will assure this plant will self sow in your garden. Some people may not like this habit, but I love it. Verbena are easy to remove unwanted seedlings of so I don’t consider it a nuisance. Attracts butterflies. Sun. You can see other pics at PlantFiles. 100 seed for $1.25.

.
.
Verbena tenuisecta ‘Desert Jewels Mix’ (Moss Verbena) Z8? VerTMix
This is a great trailer for the front of a border or out of a planter. The attractive foliage is lacy. The flowers bloom in lilac clusters as shown but also assorted shade of pink, and white. Drought tolerant. Self-sows. Butterfly attractor. Sun. 100 seeds for $1.25

.
.
Viola cornuta ‘Blue Perfection Z5 vioBP
This is an adorable little flower. The blooms are a bright sky blue with a tiny yellow spot in the middle. To see pics on Dave’s Garden, Click Here. Started inside in the winter or winter sown and planted in the garden while still fairly cold out, they will start blooming early in spring. Though technically a first year blooming perennial, people often treat violas as annuals using them as bedding plants or in containers, and they are short lived perennials so I’m listing them here. Also some people don’t like violas and violets because of their tendency to re-seed. I don’t mind it at all. They are tiny little things, not bullies crowding out other plants, and with my rabbit problems, I’ll never have too many. The flowers are edible for us humans too. 75 seeds for $1.50.

.
.
Viola cornuta ‘King Henry’ aka ‘Blue Elf’ Z4 VioKiH
King Henry has been around for a long time and it’s flowers are easily recognizable. They are a deep blue purple with a blue violet center marked with a yellow eye. They are tiny little cuties, not bullies crowding out other plants, and with my rabbit problems, I’ll never have too many. The flowers are edible for us humans too. 75+ seeds for $1.50.
Sorry, now out of stock. Hopefully back Fall 2017.
